Limit, Pot Limit and No Limit

Whether you are playing a cash game or a tournament, there are different ways to play relating to how much you can bet during a hand. Standard poker rules require that raises must be at least equal to the amount of the previous bet or raise.

Limit poker - is where the size of bets and raises are fixed (One bet and three raises), depending on the table stakes if it is a cash game or the blind levels if it is a tournament.

Pot Limit poker - is where the maximum bet or raise allowed is defined by the amount of money or chips already in the pot. Pot-limit games do not have a limit on the number of raises.

No Limit poker - is where there is no limit to the amount of money that can be bet. The only restriction there is in No Limit poker is that you can only bet as many chips as you having at the table at the time (table stakes). No-limit games do not have a limit on the number of raises.

Blinds - Blinds are bets that are designed to get the betting started and are used for all the flop games. There are two blinds - the small blind and the big blind. The player whom posts the small blind is to the immediate left of the dealer and next player to his or her left posts the big blind.

When there are only two players left in the game the blinds are handled slightly differently. The dealer posts the small blind. The other player posts the big blind.

Betting Exceptions- When a player wishes to call a bet or does not have enough funds to do so, the player can remain in the game by going all-in (betting all their remaining money). The player will take no further action in the hand but will still be eligible to win the share of the pot up to and including their last contribution.

Rake Info - When you play real money cash games, the house retains a small portion of the pot, which is known as rake. The amount retained by the house is dependent upon the table stakes.
